An inner storm, clothed in brocade and embroidered silk.
Precious costumes of Italian princes and princesses.
Treasures from Shakespeare dramas, reborn in pigment and vigorous brush strokes.

Those were my goals and emotions while creating this pair of paintings.

50 years ago I borrowed “A Children’s Shakespeare” from the library. I was drawn to the golden illustrations and magical names of the plays. Sadly, the book was so condensed, that the Shakespeare’s Comedies lost their charm, and their surprising plots read like Wikipedia.

But I did learn a new magical word – “Tempest”  from the name of that play.

The Tempest tells of the Duke of Milan and his daughter Miranda, who are expelled to a desert island, and restored to their rightful place via a storm conjured by sorcery.

It is strange how ancient memories reemerge from oblivion. And reappear in my artwork.
