Works on Canvas
I prefer oils when working from observation. Ironically, I find that I paint much quicker in that slow drying medium. Acrylics require much more layers and work than oils to achieve depth of color. In my works based on pattern and ornamentation, I find quickly drying acrylics more suited to my gradual building up of tactile layers. I enjoy creating little windows in each layer, exposing earlier stages of the work. Once dried, the brushstrokes of even completely covered “mistakes” remain as archeological evidence of earlier thoughts.
